Food has always had a unique way of bringing people together. Around family tables, in bustling kitchens and through stories passed down from generation to generation, it creates connections that endure. Few people have embodied that spirit more completely than Errieda du Toit, whose contribution to South Africa’s food culture has touched countless lives over several decades. Now, as she faces significant health challenges, the Stellenbosch food and wine community is coming together to support one of its own.
On 24 June, some of the Cape Winelands’ most respected chefs, winemakers and hospitality professionals will gather at Lanzerac Estate Hotel & Spa for a special fundraising dinner dedicated to Du Toit. The event is being spearheaded by Onderstok Food Creative, a collective of Stellenbosch chefs committed to celebrating creativity, community and culinary excellence, in partnership with Stellenbosch Wine Routes. What makes the evening particularly meaningful is that those involved have donated their time, expertise and products to ensure that all proceeds from ticket sales go directly towards supporting Du Toit and her family.
For many South Africans, Du Toit is a familiar and trusted voice. As the beloved huiskok on RSG, a food content producer for the popular television series Kokkedoor, and the author of several acclaimed cookbooks, she has played an influential role in documenting and celebrating the country’s rich and diverse food heritage. Her work has extended far beyond recipes, helping preserve stories, traditions and cultural connections through food.
The fundraiser reflects the deep respect she commands within the industry. An impressive line-up of culinary talent, including chefs from some of the region’s most acclaimed establishments, will collaborate to create an evening that celebrates both exceptional local cuisine and the spirit of generosity. Guests can expect a memorable dining experience paired with outstanding Stellenbosch wines and a strong sense of community.
At its heart, this is more than a fundraiser. It is a reminder of the power of community and the lasting impact one individual can have on an industry. In honouring Errieda du Toit, Stellenbosch’s food and wine fraternity is celebrating a legacy built on storytelling, hospitality and human connection—values that continue to define South African food culture at its very best.
All funds raised through ticket sales will be donated to assist Errieda and her family.
