In a positive development, Sonderend Road Primary in Cape Town is set to open a new Wellness Hub for learners. The initiative will provide mental health support, counselling, and programmes to strengthen social and emotional well-being.
The hub forms part of a Western Cape Education Department pilot to address rising concerns about youth stress, anxiety, and exposure to violence. Teachers say the facility will make a real difference in helping children learn and thrive.
The launch highlights a growing recognition that education must go beyond academics, focusing also on the holistic well-being of learners. If successful, similar hubs could be rolled out to schools across the province.
