Cape Town residents and visitors are advised to prepare for traffic disruptions in the CBD as the annual State of the Nation Address (SONA) takes place on Thursday, 12 February 2026. The event will once again be hosted at the historic Cape Town City Hall.
The City’s Traffic Services has confirmed that road closures will be implemented in the lead-up to, during, and after the event. Some closures will be in effect from 7 February through to 28 February 2026, affecting traffic flow and available parking in parts of the CBD and surrounding areas.
While official signage will be installed in affected zones, motorists are urged to familiarise themselves with the full list of road closures in advance and to plan their routes carefully.

Motorists are encouraged to:
- Limit non-essential travel within the CBD during this period
- Allow for additional travel time when moving in or around the city centre
- Plan alternative routes ahead of time
- Keep intersections clear between traffic light changes
- Remain patient and courteous on the roads
