The City of Cape Town’s Coastal Management Branch has announced that the Soetwater Coastal Resort in Kommetjie will become a cashless facility from 1 November 2025, in line with global best practices for safety and convenience.
Day visitor entrance fees will remain affordable, ranging from R7 for children to R22 for adults. According to Alderman Eddie Andrews, the City’s Deputy Mayor and Mayoral Committee Member for Spatial Planning and Environment, the decision aims to protect both visitors and staff.
“We’ve made the decision to go cashless in the interest of safety and security. It eliminates the need for handling cash and brings Soetwater in line with other major biodiversity tourism destinations, such as Cape Point,” said Andrews.
He encouraged residents to take the opportunity to explore Soetwater’s scenic coastal beauty. “Many Capetonians may not even be aware of this hidden gem. It’s the perfect place for a peaceful break from city life, right on your doorstep.”
All major credit and debit cards will be accepted at the resort gate, with contactless tap-to-pay options available for added convenience.
