Franschhoek is set to host a landmark cultural moment as the globally revered Montreux Jazz Festival makes its African debut with the inaugural Montreux Jazz Festival Franschhoek, presented by Nedbank.
Taking place from 27–29 March 2026, the festival has revealed its first phase of artists, setting the tone for an edition rooted in African excellence, global exchange and artistic depth.
The Arches | Main Stage
Headlining the opening announcement is the legendary Salif Keita, widely regarded as the “Golden Voice of Africa.” With a career spanning more than five decades, Keita’s rare appearance signals both musical legacy and cultural resonance.
Joining him is acclaimed South African trumpeter and composer Mandisi Dyantyis, whose genre-fluid sound bridges classical, folk and contemporary jazz influences. His presence underscores the festival’s commitment to artists shaping the future of African jazz.
Collaboration takes centre stage with Billy Monama’s Guitar Convergence, bringing together Moss Mogale and Vusi Mahlasela in a powerful dialogue of storytelling and virtuosity.
A bold cross-continental statement comes through The Kesivan amaBig Band Experience, led by Kesivan Naidoo. The 26-piece ensemble reimagines Amapiano through a large acoustic jazz orchestra, featuring vocalists Boohle, Stogie T and BONJ — a dynamic fusion of Swiss and South African artistry.
The Jazz Village | NG Church Complex
Designed for intimacy and deep listening, Jazz Village offers an exploratory counterpoint to the main stage.
A rare collaboration between Madala Kunene and Sibusile Xaba bridges generations and genres, blending maskandi heritage with contemporary experimentation.
Also confirmed is Kwanti Leeh! — featuring Herbie Tsoaeli, Andile Yenana, Ayanda Sikade and Sisonke Xonti — representing the depth and collective strength of South Africa’s jazz excellence.
Performances on The Arches run from lunchtime to midnight on Friday and Saturday, with Jazz Village shows from 3pm to midnight. Sunday embraces a relaxed “Sunday Slowdown” across the Montreux Mile.
