Booking has opened for Listening to Walls Wear Off Their Colour, an evocative new performance collaboration by three internationally acclaimed artists, coming to Cape Town for a strictly limited run in January 2026.
Presented at the Baxter Theatre Centre, the work brings together Lebanese theatre-maker Maya Zbib, Australian choreographer Lee Serle, and Colombian visual artist Mateo López. All three are former fellows of the Rolex mentoring programme, and this project marks a rare creative convergence of their distinct disciplines.
Blending movement, visual imagery and live performance, Listening to Walls Wear Off Their Colour explores themes of displacement, isolation and the search for connection in an ever-shifting world. The production invites audiences to slow down, reflect and allow their minds to wander between memories, fears and desires, creating space for contemplation and empathy in contemporary urban life.
Zbib and Serle perform alongside South African dancers Lorin Sookool and Grant van Ster, forming a fluid landscape of bodies and stories that continuously reveal and conceal one another. Individual narratives blur into a collective experience, asking how personal journeys can reflect broader social realities.
Visually striking and emotionally resonant, the work creates an abstract architecture of frames, movement and imagination. It challenges audiences to consider how fear of the “other”, loneliness and xenophobia shape modern societies — and whether art can open a space for renewed ways of seeing and relating.
Listening to Walls Wear Off Their Colour runs for three performances only: Friday, 16 January 2026 at 19:30, and Saturday, 17 January 2026 at 14:30 and 19:30. Booking is now open via Webtickets and Pick n Pay outlets.
