Baxter Theatre Rings in the New Year in Unforgettable Style

Cape Town knows how to celebrate, but few New Year’s Eve experiences match the magic of the annual festivities at the Baxter Theatre Centre. Attending for the third year in a row, it’s clear why this has become a firm favourite on the city’s festive calendar – it delivers value and variety all under one iconic roof.

The evening began with dinner at La Cuccina, where a generous harvest table set the tone. From vibrant salads to beautifully prepared meats and satisfying vegetarian options, the spread made choosing a delight rather than a dilemma. Standouts included the refreshing watermelon and feta salad, perfectly roasted vegetables, and a slow-cooked brisket that truly melted in the mouth. A fragrant Sri Lankan curry proved to be another winning choice, while the cheesecake – rich, creamy and indulgent – paired perfectly with post-dinner coffee before heading into the theatre.

With multiple sold-out shows on offer, the Baxter once again showcased its depth of talent. Having already enjoyed the brilliance of Colleen the Musical earlier in the month – with Marc Lottering at his award-winning best – the choice this time was to laugh the year out with Riaad Moosa. His show, What’s the Point, was sharp, relatable and hilarious, with the packed house in stitches from start to finish. It was 90 minutes of laughter – truly the best medicine to close out 2025.

As the shows wrapped up just before 11pm, the celebration shifted seamlessly into party mode. A DJ spinning classic hits from the 80s and 90s had more than a thousand people dancing, singing and jiving – from the floor right up to the balconies. Midnight arrived with a joyful countdown, followed by a spectacular drop of hundreds of colourful balloons from the high ceilings, sealing the moment with hugs, kisses and heartfelt New Year wishes.

What makes the Baxter’s New Year’s Eve celebration truly special is not just the electric atmosphere, but the complete experience it offers. Dinner, a top-class live show and a vibrant party that stretches late into the night come together seamlessly, creating an inclusive celebration overflowing with energy and true Cape Town spirit.

Quite simply, this is one of Cape Town’s best New Year’s Eve celebrations – and one that keeps us coming back year after year.
