Community Chest Welcomes Tanya Nefdt to Lead Marketing and Communications

Community Chest Western Cape has announced the appointment of respected broadcaster and journalist Tanya Nefdt as its new Head of Marketing and Communications, marking a significant step forward for the organisation’s community engagement and brand growth strategy.

With a media career spanning more than 20 years, Nefdt is widely recognised for her work as a broadcast news anchor, Human Interest Reporter, CNN Journalism Fellow, and most recently as co-presenter of the breakfast show on Heart FM. Her work on eNCA and eTV earned her a strong reputation for impactful storytelling, often highlighting inspiring community-driven stories and social issues affecting ordinary South Africans.

Her transition into the non-profit sector reflects a natural progression for a media personality whose career has long been rooted in people-centred journalism and community upliftment.

In her new position, Nefdt will oversee Community Chest’s marketing and communications strategy, with a focus on strengthening stakeholder relationships, increasing public awareness, and amplifying the organisation’s ongoing impact across the Western Cape.

Community Chest has for decades played an important role in supporting vulnerable communities through funding, partnerships, and developmental initiatives aimed at improving social conditions and empowering local organisations.

Speaking on the appointment, Community Chest CEO Peter Heeger expressed confidence in Nefdt’s ability to elevate the organisation’s public engagement.

“We are thrilled to have Tanya join the Community Chest team. Her passion for people, storytelling and community upliftment aligns perfectly with our vision, and we look forward to an exciting journey ahead together,” said Heeger.

Nefdt’s appointment comes at a time when authentic storytelling and meaningful community engagement remain critical to the success of non-profit organisations navigating an increasingly competitive and digitally driven landscape. Her extensive media experience and established public profile are expected to bring fresh energy and visibility to Community Chest’s mission in the region.
