Now entering its 11th year, The Cape Wine Auction (CWA) continues to cement its status as one of South Africa’s most prestigious philanthropic wine events, having raised more than R135 million since its inception in 2014 to support education and youth development in the winelands Celebrating_11_years_of_The_Cap….
Under the leadership of chairman Paul Clüver, who took the reins in 2022, the Auction is embracing evolution while remaining true to its core purpose. With changing markets and growing ambitions, the focus has shifted towards continuously elevating the guest experience, curating exceptional auction lots, and expanding the event’s reach to raise even greater funds for the children and communities it serves.
A major milestone for 2026 is the announcement that the Cape Wine Auction will be hosted at Nederburg for the first time. The historic estate will welcome guests on Saturday, 7 February 2026, offering a larger venue, a broader audience, and a new chapter for the event in its landmark year. Nederburg’s long-standing reputation in South African wine, supported by Heineken Beverages, is expected to enhance both the scale and profile of the Auction.
The 2026 programme remains rooted in the CWA’s signature format. The morning Barrel Auction will showcase exclusive wines from top producers, followed by the Experience Auction & Luncheon, where once-in-a-lifetime lots are paired with a world-class culinary offering curated by leading South African chefs including Reuben Riffel, Peter Tempelhoff and Pete Goffe-Wood. Adding fresh energy to the day is The Celebration, an evening event featuring live music headlined by MiCasa and Loyiso, bringing a vibrant social dimension to the occasion.
Among the standout auction offerings already confirmed for 2026 are rare international wine experiences, luxury travel escapes, art by celebrated sculptor Anton Smit, and unique pairings of wine, sport and culture — all designed to capture the imagination of bidders while driving meaningful impact.
Beyond the glamour and exclusivity, the heart of the Cape Wine Auction remains its commitment to education. Every cent raised is directed towards carefully selected organisations working across education, youth development and essential social support in rural winelands communities. The Trust’s collaborative funding model ensures that beneficiaries work together more effectively, maximising impact and reducing duplication.
As the Cape Wine Auction looks ahead, its vision is clear: to grow in scale, deepen its impact, and continue uniting the wine industry and philanthropic community around a shared purpose — changing lives through education, one extraordinary auction at a time.
