Cape Town’s creative scene is set for a bold new chapter as urban developer Blok unveils Art on the Blok 2.0 – Open Art, an outdoor exhibition that will transform the iconic ELEVENONB site at 11 Buiten Street into a dynamic public art space.
Building on the success of last year’s pop-up gallery, this year’s edition moves outdoors, inviting artists to turn the former Madam Zingara restaurant site into a vibrant creative canvas before construction begins. The exhibition will run from November 2025 to February 2026, offering free public access and giving emerging artists a high-visibility platform in the heart of Cape Town.
Blok has issued an open call for submissions from visual artists, sculptors, ceramicists, photographers, muralists, installation artists, and more. All works must be suitable for outdoor display and withstand Cape Town’s summer weather. Entries close on Wednesday, 15 October 2025. Selected artists will exhibit their work free of charge, engaging directly with the city and its communities.
“Art has always enabled connection,” says Jacques van Embden, Blok’s Founder & CEO. “Before ELEVENONB rises, Open Art will be a space for Cape Town’s creative community to exhibit their work. It’s about sparking conversation and belonging by making art accessible to all.”
ELEVENONB is set to become Blok’s most ambitious development yet, embodying their philosophy of connecting urban living with community and culture.
