One of Hollywood’s most iconic love stories is stepping onto South African stages in 2026 as Pretty Woman: The Musical makes its highly anticipated local debut. Featuring an all-South African cast, band and creative team, the production opens at Artscape, Cape Town on 18 March, before heading to the Teatro at Montecasino from 24 April. At the heart of this fresh local staging are two rising stars. Leah Mari takes on the role of Vivian Ward, following her acclaimed turns in The Sound of Music, My Fair Lady and CHICAGO. Starring opposite her is the versatile Christopher Jaftha, celebrated for his work in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, Aladdin and West Side Story. Together, they bring new depth and charm to the beloved characters first made famous by Julia Roberts and Richard Gere.
The supporting cast features an impressive lineup of South African talent, including Thuto Lesedi Gaasenwe as Kit De Luca, Tiaan Rautenbach as Happy Man, and Daniel Conradie as Philip Stuckey. A vibrant ensemble of seasoned performers and emerging stars rounds out the 24-member cast, supported by a six-piece live band.
Behind the scenes, a powerful blend of international and local expertise guides the production. Associate Director and Choreographer Rusty Mowery and Musical Supervisor Will van Dyke collaborate with South Africa’s Resident Director Darren Greeff and an exceptional creative and technical team. Their collective vision promises a production rich in emotion, nostalgia and dazzling musical moments.
Based on the 1990 hit film, Pretty Woman: The Musical features a book by the movie’s original creators and a score by Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance, including the unforgettable title song Oh, Pretty Woman. Audiences can expect a feel-good theatrical experience filled with romance, humour and standout performances.
