Cape Town is preparing to host the world-renowned Two Oceans Marathon 2026, one of the city’s most anticipated annual sporting events, taking place from 8 to 12 April. More than 30 000 runners are expected to participate in the Two Oceans Marathon, bringing significant energy, tourism, and temporary road closures across the city.
The Two Oceans Marathon race week features a packed programme, headlined by the internationally acclaimed 56km Ultra Marathon on Saturday, 11 April, and the 21.1km Half Marathon on Sunday, 12 April. Supporting events include scenic trail runs and the International Friendship Run. Proceedings begin with the Two Oceans Marathon Expo and race pack collection at CTICC 2, open daily until Friday, with extended access on Saturday for Half Marathon participants. Widely recognised as one of the most scenic races in the world, the Two Oceans Marathon continues to attract both elite and amateur runners from across the globe.

The Two Oceans Marathon schedule begins impacting traffic from Thursday, 9 April, with the International Friendship Run affecting the Atlantic Seaboard. Road closures will be in place along Fritz Sonnenberg Road, Granger Bay Boulevard and Beach Road between 07:30 and 09:30.
On Saturday, the flagship Two Oceans Marathon Ultra Marathon route will stretch through the Southern Suburbs, along the False Bay coastline, over Chapman’s Peak and into Constantia, before finishing at the University of Cape Town. The Two Oceans Marathon Half Marathon on Sunday will conclude the event, taking runners through key Southern Suburbs routes.
Motorists should note that the Two Oceans Marathon will bring extensive road closures throughout the weekend. Chapman’s Peak Drive will be closed from 18:00 on Friday, 10 April until 12:00 on Saturday. Ultra Marathon road closures begin as early as 03:00 on Saturday, while Sunday’s Half Marathon closures from 03:00 will affect Newlands Main Road, the M3 southbound, Paradise Road, Ladies Mile Extension and Rhodes Avenue, as well as routes across Constantia Nek, Southern Cross Drive and sections of the False Bay coastline.
