Few wildlife experiences in Cape Town are as memorable as a visit to Boulders Beach Penguin Colony. Suitable for children aged two and older, this world-famous attraction allows families to observe African penguins in their natural habitat from a safe and respectful distance.

The colony is home to hundreds of African penguins, one of the continent’s most iconic and endangered bird species. Elevated boardwalks provide excellent viewing opportunities while protecting the birds and their nesting areas. Children are often fascinated by the penguins’ playful behaviour as they waddle across the sand or dive into the ocean.

Winter is an especially pleasant time to visit, with cooler temperatures and generally fewer crowds than during the busy summer season. The surrounding beaches and granite boulders create a spectacular setting for photographs and family outings.

Boulders Beach is open daily from 8am to 6pm. Entry costs R55 for adults and R26 for children, making it an affordable opportunity to experience one of Cape Town’s most treasured wildlife attractions up close.
