Ster-Kinekor is bringing a selection of beloved films back to the big screen this April, offering audiences a nostalgic cinema experience at a reduced ticket price of R50. The Throwback Cinema programme, timed to coincide with the school holidays and public holidays, features a mix of iconic titles spanning animation, romance, musicals and classic drama.
The April line-up includes Shrek Forever After and Eat Pray Love, both screening from early April, catering to family audiences and fans of contemporary storytelling. From 10 April, the enduring musical Grease returns to cinemas, while Pixar’s Up arrives later in the month, aligning with a period of increased holiday leisure time.
In addition to mainstream favourites, the programme also highlights classic cinema at select venues. An Affair to Remember (1957) screens from 3 April, followed by It’s a Wonderful Life (1946) from 24 April, both exclusively at Rosebank Nouveau. These films offer audiences an opportunity to revisit landmark productions that have shaped cinematic history.
The Throwback Cinema titles will be available at multiple Ster-Kinekor locations nationwide, including key sites in Cape Town such as Somerset Mall, Blue Route, V&A Waterfront, Capegate and Tygervalley.
The initiative reflects continued interest in revisiting classic films in a shared cinema setting, with extended two-week screening windows allowing more flexibility for audiences.
As the programme gains momentum, Ster-Kinekor is expected to expand its retro offerings, reinforcing the enduring appeal of the big-screen experience for both new and returning audiences.
