Cape Town theatre audiences are turning out in strong numbers for Pretty Woman: The Musical, now showing at Artscape, with demand for tickets reflecting the production’s broad appeal and nostalgic draw.
The stage adaptation of the iconic 1990 film has enjoyed successful runs on Broadway, the West End and international tours, and its South African debut features an all-local cast. Among the standout performers are Naledi Theatre Award winners Leah Mari, who takes on the lead role of Vivian Ward, and Daniel Conradie as Philip Stuckey, both recognised for recent performances in major musical productions.
The production follows the well-known storyline of an unlikely romance between Vivian, a spirited young woman, and Edward, a wealthy businessman. Blending humour, romance and high-energy musical numbers, the show aims to balance familiarity with fresh stage interpretation.
