George Russell delivered a commanding performance at the 2025 Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix, claiming his second victory of the season in style. Starting from pole position, the Mercedes driver led confidently from the opening lap, fending off Max Verstappen into Turn 1 and steadily pulling away as the race unfolded.
Russell’s win was made slightly easier by Verstappen’s tyre strategy — the Red Bull driver started on softs, a decision that compromised his early pace. While Verstappen faced several car issues, he managed to hold off a charging Lando Norris to secure second place. Norris, who started fifth, impressed with a strong start and a bold overtake on Oscar Piastri, though the move sparked heated radio complaints from the Australian. Norris eventually crossed the line in third, with teammate Piastri just behind in fourth.
Young star Kimi Antonelli produced a mature drive to snatch fifth from Charles Leclerc late in the race, while Lewis Hamilton’s hopes of a top-six finish evaporated after a brake issue in the final laps. He also faces a stewards’ investigation for track limits violations. Fernando Alonso claimed eighth, followed by Ollie Bearman and Carlos Sainz to complete the top ten.
Speaking after the race, Russell was elated: “It feels amazing, especially after what happened here a couple of years ago. The team did an incredible job this weekend. Singapore wasn’t on our list of expected strong tracks, so this result is special.”
Meanwhile, McLaren had even more reason to celebrate. The British outfit sealed the 2025 Constructors’ Championship, marking back-to-back titles — a feat they last achieved decades ago. CEO Zak Brown hailed the achievement: “Unbelievable team effort both here and at the factory. Our drivers have been phenomenal all season, racing hard and clean. It’s pretty awesome to go back-to-back.”
With just a few races left in the season, Russell’s surprise victory has added a new twist to the championship narrative as the F1 circus prepares to head to Austin.
