On Sunday, 2 November 2025, the sun-drenched decks of the V&A Waterfront came alive as thousands of excited spectators gathered for the return of Red Bull Flugtag. The city welcomed summer in style with high-spirited fun, creativity and plenty of splash.
From midday onward, a flood of inventive teams rolled their handcrafted flying machines to the launch ramp at Jetty 1 and made the dramatic leap into the Atlantic. The concept is simple yet thrilling: teams design and build home-made “aircraft” with no motors or rockets — only human power. They’re judged on creativity, distance flown (or plunged!), and showmanship.
Restaurants and eateries around the Waterfront were buzzing, queues long but cheerful, and the vibrant seaside atmosphere made it feel like a perfect Cape Town summer day. You could sense a vibe of community and spectacle — something that any city with a waterfront should love.
What stood out was the family-friendly feel. Kids, families and friends of all ages gathered in the open harbour-air; the event was free, and the viewing zones — including big screens at Clock Tower and UCB Square — made it accessible to everyone.
